The highlight of the trip includes a pre-arranged supplementary feeding time at 11:00 am and 3:00 pm daily. This feeding session brings the chimpanzees within meters of a raised walkway designed for easy viewing, offering excellent photographic opportunities.

In addition to chimpanzee viewing and feeding, the sanctuary offers various activities. Chimpanzee Tracking Ngamba Island

The 1-day visit to Ngamba Chimpanzee Island Sanctuary is a half-day tour that commences upon your arrival in Entebbe, Uganda. The departure point for the island is approximately 1 hour by speedboat or 1 hour and 30 minutes by a traditional motorized boat. The cost is contingent on the number of people on the boat.

Boats operate in two shifts, from 9-10 am and 12-1 pm (local time), ferrying visitors to the island. It is crucial to book in advance to secure your spot, as only a limited number of visitors are accommodated. The cost per person is $150, inclusive of a zoo tour. You also have the option to explore the recently introduced tigers at the Entebbe Wildlife Educational Center’s zoo.

Children below 5 years of age are not charged, and those between 5-15 years pay half of the adult price, with fees dependent on the number of people on the boat.

Following the chimpanzee tracking experience, there is an onsite restaurant available, as packed lunches are not permitted within the sanctuary. Enjoy the convenience of dining on-site after an enriching day with the chimpanzees.

Detailed 1 Day Visit to Ngamba Chimpanzee Island Sanctuary Itinerary:

Arrive at Entebbe airport where our tour guide will pick you up and transfer you on a short drive to the Entebbe pier where you will board a motorized canoe to your 1 day visit to Ngamba Island sanctuary.

7:00 AM – Board the motorized canoe: Once at the pier, the journey will take about 45-minute boat ride to arrive at Ngamba Chimpanzee Island.

7:45 AM – Arrival at Ngamba Island: Upon arrival at the island, you will be greeted by the sanctuary staff and given a brief orientation on the island and the chimpanzees.

8:00 AM – Observe feeding of chimpanzees: You will then have the opportunity to observe the feeding of the chimpanzees from a raised platform.

9:00 AM – Interact with the chimpanzees: After the feeding, you will be allowed to interact with the chimpanzees from a safe distance on the island’s platform. This interaction will give you an up-close experience with the chimpanzees as you observe them playing, grooming, and socializing.

11:00 AM – Depart Ngamba Island: After the chimpanzee interaction, you will depart from the island via the motorized canoe.

11:45 AM – Return to Entebbe: Once back on the mainland, you will be driven back to your hotel in Entebbe.

12:30 PM – Arrive at your hotel: You will arrive back at your hotel in Entebbe in time for lunch or to continue with your other travel plans depending on your departure time or transfer directly to Entebbe airport for your departure back home and the end of your 1 day visit to Ngamba Island sanctuary..
